Dakota Roche’s Talk Is Cheap part is absolutely ridiculous. Banger after banger – how is that humanly possible? What’s even crazier is his eye for spots and lines. He sees things most of us don’t; I just hope it’s not dead people. I imagine his mind is constantly looking and analyzing urban landscapes as he drives in his car or cruises through neighborhoods. I’m sure as riders we all do this, but there’s just something about the way Dak links lines together and declares random objects, most of us wouldn’t even consider, a “spot.”
This vision Dak has carries through not only in front of the camera but behind it as well. For those who know him, seeing Dak unload a camera bag and a wide-ass skateboard with fat wheels from his car is nothing new. But for those who have only seen him in front of the camera, probably don’t realize that he’s actually filming and editing some of the best clips and parts out today.
Being a rider always helps when picking up a camera to film your friend, but actually being a true “filmer” is far beyond the “bro cam” most of us endure throughout our BMX career. There are very few people who can perform in front of a camera and capture it behind the camera like Dak – but don’t you just hate those people? You know the ones, people who can skate, ride, surf, film and put together an 8+ minute part that actually holds your attention the entire time.
Dak is a rider first then a filmer, but as the curse of inevitable old age sets in, will Dak move behind the lens like a seasoned Clint Eastwood or Ron Howard? I guess you better read the interview to find out. Oh, and quit the overuse of artsy shots, give the trick justice… - Mike Hines
